overview Located in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Common Good is an ice cream shop rooted in community, simplicity, and local connection. Situated within a family-oriented agricultural region, the business was founded on the idea of a circular economy, sourcing ingredients locally and creating a gathering place where neighbours could come together over a simple shared experience.
The design takes inspiration from the ritual of eating an ice cream cone. The familiar texture of the waffle cone appears throughout the interior, from the fluted counter front to the vertically ribbed wall tile. A strong horizontal datum separates the warm terracotta tones above from the crisp white surfaces below, recalling the transition between cone and ice cream. The colour palette draws from natural ingredients, dairy, baked goods, and the muted tones of the surrounding agricultural landscape.

Custom bench seating encourages communal gathering and provides flexible seating for families, children, and groups. Durable concrete floors, simple furnishings, and honest materials were selected to create an environment that feels welcoming, approachable, and enduring.
A large terracotta marble counter anchors the space and references the traditional gelaterias of Italy. Throughout the project, authentic materials were prioritized wherever possible. Marble tabletops were fabricated from remnant stone pieces, allowing each table to have its own unique character while reducing waste and keeping costs in balance.
The result is a space that feels both contemporary and familiar—a neighbourhood gathering place where design quietly supports conversation, connection, and the simple pleasure of sharing ice cream.
